Overview of the Foundation
Mission: The Irene S. Scully Family Foundation invests in organizations that build equity and opportunity in Oakland and West Contra Costa County school communities.
Vision: All Oakland and West Contra Costa County students receive a high-quality education and school communities have the capacity to fully meet the academic and social-emotional needs of all learners.
The Irene S. Scully Family Foundation grants approximately $3.5 million each year to schools, school districts, and nonprofit organizations that improve the quality of K-12 public education in both Oakland and West Contra Costa County. As of 2018, all grants will align with our five priority areas: Quality Public Schools; Engaged School Communities; Healthy School Systems; Effective Teaching and Leadership; and Summer Learning. In partnership with our grantees, our goal is to improve academic and social outcomes for students who are disproportionately impacted by systemic racial, social, and socio-economic inequities. The Foundation seeks to invest in high-leverage, community-informed strategies that create meaningful learning opportunities for students and create sustainable system-level improvements. More information about our grantmaking strategy and five priority areas can be found here.
